The Power of Words

This series combines clay body parts, often objectified and sexualized, with expressions and slogans, reclaiming them as symbols of empowerment and creating functional and thought-provoking pieces. Incorporating upcycled materials such as frames, wooden planks, and iron sheets, I engrave impactful words tied to the clay pieces I create.

The project began with inspiration from isolated body parts and a curiosity about their context and meaning. Influenced by Jean-Loup Chiflet’s "Nom d'une pipe, name of a pipe", a dictionary of idiomatic expressions, the series explores how words hold cultural and historical weight, shaping perspectives and norms.

Blending form and message, these pieces challenge societal views, celebrating the body’s autonomy and strength while sparking dialogue about the interplay of language, culture, and power. By fusing art with activism, I aim to honor the past while inspiring a reimagined, inclusive future.

In some pieces, the clay has been left intentionally unglazed, showcasing its raw, natural beauty. When used as a candle holder, dripping wax will gradually darken the surface and alter its texture, giving each piece a unique, evolving character over time.

During the creation of the piece "I Can Buy Myself Flowers," I encountered a few unexpected challenges, such as the glazing not turning out as planned. However, this setback sparked a new idea: to design a series with a removable vase, allowing for interchangeable elements. This innovative approach not only solves the issue but opens up new possibilities for creativity and functionality. More is to come..
